Senior, Hedge Fund Tax Associate – (CT; 7-10 years experience; 10B+ complex multi-strategy 10+ year old hedge fund; learn from the best; work hard, of course, but excellent work-life balance; head of tax has been there for over 7 years; Total compensation 110k to 130K+)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review hedge funds & private equity funds’ partnership tax returns, including Form 926, 8865, 5471, 8621, 8858, tax allocation using aggregate revaluation method, fill-up/fill-down, Forms K-1 prepared by external accountants. 
  • Review realized gain/loss reports, qualified dividend reports & unrealized gain/loss reports.
  • Review wash sale, constructive sale, short sales, 1256 contracts, Section 988 currency, straddles & various additional tax items specific to hedge funds.
  • Involve in the tax compliance of dealing with master-feeder structures, fund of funds, blocker corporations, passive foreign investment companies (“PFIC”)
  • Prepare interim tax estimates as requested by investors.
  •  Prepare management company tax returns and tax work-papers (S-corporation tax return experience  a must) with a good understanding on various book to tax differences
  • Handle multi-tier structure, the consolidated partnership tax return and work-paper preparation for the proprietary investment vehicle.
  • Calculate US withholding tax related to ECI and FDAP; liaison with prime brokers regarding monthly changes funds’ ownership percentages that affect US withholding tax with respect to non-US investors.
  • Review Form 1042, 1042-S, 1042-T for US withholding tax purposes.
  • Prepare/Review various states’ sales/use tax returns & local property tax declarations
  • Monthly reconciliation of tax depreciation vs. book depreciation
  • Review external private placement investments and coordinate delivery of Due Diligence, tax estimates and K1s

 REQUIREMENTS:  

  •  Undergraduate degree in accounting with good academic performance
  • CPA or with advanced degree in tax strongly preferred  
  • 6 to 10 years’ experience in public accounting or at a hedge fund/private equity fund
  • Excellent Excel and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of Insource/(Fast Tax) Tax Software, Fixed Asset System (FAS) and BNA
  • Detail oriented and able to work independently
  • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Strong desire to learn
