John A. Breault

John Breault founded Breault & Smith, LLC ("B&S") in 2003.

Before founding B&S, John served as the Chief Operating Officer of Heidrick & Struggles' Financial Services Practice, where he worked directly for Brian Sullivan (then Managing Partner of Heidrick & Struggles’ Global Financial Services Practice and now CEO of CTPartners and the founder of Sullivan & Co.) and Barry Bregman (formerly CFO Practice Leader at Heidrick & Struggles and now Vice Chairman at CTPartners.)

Prior to that, John was Director/Chief of Staff for the Vice President of Human Resources at Dow Jones, publisher of the Wall Street Journal. Before Dow Jones, John spent seven years at Goldman Sachs/Commodities Corporation ("CC" – a hedge fund founded in the 70’s).

John joined CC from Patrick Shea Consulting, a human resources consulting firm, where he was founder and President.  John’s other prior experience includes Roadway Express, Hewlett-Packard, Asea Brown Boveri and Honeywell.

John graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York, where he played football and lacrosse. He also holds a Masters in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from Rutgers University and he attended New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he pursued a Masters in Computer Science.

John lives in Basking Ridge, New Jersey with his wife Kelly, their three children, Patrick, Mairin and Macauley and a number of pets including their labrador retrievers (Jo-Jo, Luna, Sketter) and golden retriever (Rosie).

John has been a member of the Managed Funds Association and the Mid-Atlantic Hedge Fund Association and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences including those sponsored by the MFA, GAIM, IMN and Financial Research Associates. He will be writing a book about Hedge Funds using an approach similar to these books: Hedgehogging by Barton Biggs (Wiley; 2006), House by Tracy Kidder (Mariner Books; 1999), The Big Short by Michael Lewis (Norton,2010) and More Money Than God by Sebastian Mallaby (Penguin, 2010).
